Shape poetry is a little gimmicky in my opinion, but it's still a lot of fun to write. Basically, the poem resembles the shape of the subject. For example, if i were to write about a circle, the shape of the poem would be a circle. This week I was inspired as I was walking down the block. Leaves had fallen and I found myself subconsciously going out of my way to stomp on them. I got into this habit from a close friend who does the same thing because she likes the sound. It was challenging to get this shaped like a leaf I guess that's what made this challengingly fun. I wish I had more time to make this better, but it will probably be almost perfect in about 5 years. That seems to be about how long it takes me to write a poem that I'm truly proud of.
Leaves
I
Walk
All alone
On the path in the park.
Fallen leaves line the walk ways
All shapes. All colors. All sizes.
They slowly dry out and beg for feet
To crunch them over and again
To stomp all over them.
I searched for that perfect sound
For a pair of feet stomping
In sync with mine,
For that familiar sound
That I once heard
With you
Right beside me
In the park
In the dark
Next to me
Listening
To the sound
Of
Each
Leaf
