A little while back on a commute to work I saw probably the sweetest thing I've seen in a long time. It was so nice, in fact, that it partially made the rest of my day. There was a couple, probably in their 50's, walking to the subway. They stopped at the corner, hugged, spoke a few words during the hug, pecked each other goodbye, hugged again and walked away. The woman, hopefully his wife, started to walk away when the man grabbed her arm and kissed her a last time before letting her off to start the work day. True story.
It's hard to notice these small things with your head down trying to just get through the day. No more. It's time to stop and smell the proverbial roses. It's time to slow down and walk around in the sun and appreciate the little things like a son holding his mother's hand while crossing the street, the way light strikes a building at dusk, the intense colors of the sky as the sun sets, a typo on a street sign (think "Shcool Zone), even the way a line of cabs collects while you watch from the 33rd floor of a building.
"Stop. Focus. Click." Fridays is in essence an appreciation for daily life. It will be a photo of something that strikes a chord, something beautiful in the day, or just something that sums up the week.
"Mental Health Day"
Slipper season is here. Finally.
Crashing waves... love it.
It's the little things, like having ocean water run over your feet while slowly sinking in the sand, that clears my mind of all the bullshit.
